Robert Kocharyan finds it difficult to see himself in the newly-elected Parliament

During a press conference, the PM candidate of the “Armenia” alliance, Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan announced that the election results were unexpected for them.

“All the sociological surveys of different organizations showed a different picture. We assume that there have been massive violations. We have obviously seen the use of administrative resources, that is why we will apply to the Constitutional Court to discuss the election results. Now all the materials are being collected by our headquarters to have a better idea of the extent of the protest. All our rallies were more crowded and with more energy than the rallies of the government representatives. I will express my personal opinion - my impression is that one factor worked here, the factor of the return of the former government, and it significantly strengthened the factor that three former presidents participated in the elections - two leading the lists, and the third, participating in the campaign very actively," Kocharyan said, adding that as the campaign was very short, they did not have much time and they had only a few meetings in rural areas,” he said.

Kocharyan noted that the government has registered higher results in rural areas.

"I think if we had the campaign longer for a week or two, we could have changed that," he said.

According to Robert Kocharyan, this was the last bullet of the revolution, but I do not think that the government assesses the situation correctly.

"They think this is a new mandate for them, but it was more of an opposite mandate,” he added.

Commenting on the taking the parliamentary mandates, Kocharyan said that the alliance does not have a final decision on this issue.

"I can say my personal opinion․ Yesterday we were discussing and Seyran Ohanyan did an interesting comparison that if a complete problem is not solved during hostilities, and you keep some trenches, then you should not just keep those trenches, but make them even stronger them for a further attack. Now it is not a war, but it is a political struggle, so that comparison can be used in milder terms in this case. However, I find it difficult to see myself in the parliament," Kocharyan stated.
