The French Ambassador touched upon the possibility of assistance to Armenia in the field of defense

France will consider Armenia's applications on assistance in the field of defense, but it’s necessary to take into account that Armenia and France are not part of the same military alliances. This was stated by the French Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lacôte.

“In general, our goal is not to prepare for a future war, but to avoid war, because I think that regional problems shouldn’t have a military solution, the Karabakh issue, the issue of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border should be resolved only through negotiations,” - said Lacôte.

Referring to the possible visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Armenia, the ambassador said that, indeed, during the Francophonie Summit in 2018, he promised to return to Armenia.

"At the moment there is no clear date, but I can say that President Macron will visit Armenia when the visit will be useful for supporting political processes in the region. At that moment we will see what kind of document can be signed between Armenia and France," - said Lacôte, referring to the possibility of signing a document between the two countries.
