The construction of the railway will begin if the agreements are secured by a document. Artashes Tumanyan

The construction of the railway will begin if the agreements are secured by a document, Artashes Tumanyan, the head of the working group of the Armenia-Azerbaijan railway restoration program, said in an interview with Azatutyun.

-It’s been a month since the formation of the commission, have you already managed to work on the ground, to assess the possibilities?

By the decision of the Prime Minister, a working group has been created that will be engaged or is already engaged in the restoration of well-known sections of the railway in Armenia: the Yeraskh section of more than 1 km long and the Meghri section of 45 km long. The working group has started working. We will hold the third meeting on Monday.

In about two weeks, perhaps in 10 days, a professional group will be sent to two parts of the railway, especially the Meghri section in this sense is problematic, to conduct a detailed study on the spot․

-The other day, the Prime Minister said that these agreements should be transferred on paper, are we talking about signing some kind of agreement?

There are high-class agreements, a trilateral meeting of the heads of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan was held in Sochi, during that meeting these approaches were announced, and later the Deputy Prime Ministers of the three countries gathered in Moscow, there was an optimistic statement. Later, at the initiative of Charles Michel, a meeting was held in Brussels, and it was announced there that issues related to unblocking were discussed, and the railway program is the program around which there is maximum mutual understanding. But it is acceptable for the Armenian side to start such a large-scale work if they are fixed in some kind of documentary format.
