The EU is concerned about reports of increased tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar said in a Twitter post.
“The European Union is committed to deepening its engagement in the peace process; we are engaged on multiple levels. Important to deescalate and avoid derailing a historic opportunity to turn the page on decades of strife,” Klaar said.
Earlier on August 1, starting at 9 a.m., in a number of parts of the northern and northwestern border zone of Artsakh, the Azerbaijani units resorted to provocation by making attempts to cross the contact line, which were stopped by the efforts of the Defense Forces. As a result of Azerbaijan’s provocation, one soldier of the Armed Forces was wounded, but his life is not in danger.
On August 2, it became known that the Azerbaijani side, through the peacekeeping troops stationed in Artsakh, presented a demand to organize traffic on a new route in the near future.
On the night of August 2 and August 3, the operational-tactical situation did not undergo any changes, the tension in some parts of the contact line is maintained.
