Armenia appealed to the Georgian side with a request to open ferry communication with Russia due to heavy traffic at the Upper Lars checkpoint. This was announced by the Maritime Transport Agency of the Georgian Ministry of Economy. 

Upper Lars is the only functioning checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian land border. It is through this checkpoint that Armenia transports its goods to Russia and back.
