Answering the questions of the Public Television of Armenia, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to the statements of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and answered the question of whether Baku’s failure to fulfill the agreements is a prelude to discrediting the mediation efforts and starting a new war.
“We cannot just accept the fact that the next milestone is a new escalation. What I am trying to do in practice is to first understand the content on which Azerbaijan is trying to build a precondition for a new escalation. And the best way to do this, I think, is to take inventory and adjust the agreements that Azerbaijan is trying to accuse us of not fulfilling. We are talking about the agreements that are recorded in writing because even if there are oral discussions, they should be expressed in the texts that are published as a result of discussions held at high levels,” said the Prime Minister.
Pashinyan reminded that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a new statement and emphasized its content.
“In my opinion, my speech yesterday served its purpose because today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan made a statement accusing us of aborting the process of establishing a connection between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan. This is important due to the fact that the President of Azerbaijan constantly talks about the promised corridor, and the MFA does not use the word “corridor” anymore. Why, because the main addressee of the MFA statement is the international community, and the international community is trying to go back and see what documents were signed and what was written in the texts. That is the reason why it is important to make an inventory of what is conditioned, what is written in the texts,” added Pashinyan.
He also emphasized that there are no obstacles to establishing a transport connection between the Western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan and that the only obstacle is the position of the Azerbaijani government.
