According to Davit Babayan, Acting Foreign Minister of Artsakh, the reaction of the international community regarding the closure of the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia should be turned into pressure.

“There are many reactions, the so-called first phase of the reaction, but after that, concrete action must be taken. In order for Azerbaijan to stop this genocidal step, there must be political pressure on it, we don’t see that pressure yet, and maybe we don’t feel it yet, when the road opens, we will see. Apparently, Azerbaijan is also slapping the international community,” said Davit Babayan.

According to the Artsakh official, Russian peacekeepers should be given an international mandate so that they have the authority to impose peace.

“1980 peacekeepers is not enough, it is a symbolic number. It is necessary to increase the number of peacekeepers, the more the better. There are 10 to 15 peacekeepers stationed in Shushi’s shelters, we say increase the number of peacekeepers. Give them an international mandate to be empowered to impose peace, as is done in Kosovo, and Bosnia. If an international mandate is given, then no one can come and block the road, anyone who can come without warning, can shoot, this is the mandate for Azerbaijan to be restrained, – said Davit Babayan.

To the question of whether Artsakh applied for an increase in the number of Russian peacekeepers through a written procedure, Davit Babayan said.

“We have also appealed to the Russian Federation many times. We raised this issue with our Western colleagues as well.”

To the question, of whether there has been a response, the Artsakh official answered.

“They approach that issue with understanding.”

According to Davit Babayan, there are many letters sent to international structures.

“At the moment, we are appealing to the United Nations to intervene and prevent Azerbaijan’s aggression. That letter is circulating in the UN,” he said.
