This is hardly a successful attempt to justify the involvement of the EU in the region: Zakharova commented Pashinyan's statement |news.am|

If with such statements an attempt is made to justify the involvement of the EU in the region, then this attempt can hardly be considered successful. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said this at the weekly briefing, commenting on the statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, that one of the goals of the EU observation mission is to dispel the suspicions of the West, that is, Baku's assurances to the Western partners that Armenia and the Russian Federation are jointly planning aggression against Azerbaijan.

"Russian peacekeepers ensure peace in Nagorno-Karabakh, our border guards work on the territory of Armenia, including on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. We have never heard about Baku's fears in this regard, at the same time we know about Azerbaijan's critical attitude towards the EU's decision to deploy the observation mission in Armenia.

It is obvious that Brussels aims to change the security system that has been formed in the region, and its cornerstone is the presence of the Russian military and border guards, as well as Armenia's membership in the CSTO. Well, and, of course, the spirit that was manifested, the political will, call it what you want... the implementation of the decisions that were reached between the three countries, this is, of course, a significant part of the overall picture of the security system. We want to believe that Yerevan understands and takes this into account. We are open to dialogue with our Armenian partners regarding the improvement of means of maintaining stability in the Transcaucasia, both in bilateral and multilateral formats, including relevant work within the framework of the CSTO," said Zakharova.

It should be reminded that on February 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in the parliament in connection with the arrival of the EU observation mission to Armenia.

"Before the EU mission, Azerbaijan explained its aggressive actions against Armenia on Western platforms by the fact that Armenia, the Prime Minister of Armenia is bringing more and more Russian troops and deploying them on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, a joint Armenian-Russian aggressive attack is being prepared against Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan is preparing its attack tries to more or less balance the situation with aggressive attacks to manage its vulnerabilities.

In the West, an attempt was made to present Armenia as a participant in Russia's aggressive policy, and in Russia, an attempt was made to present it as a participant in the Western conspiracy. Since the Russian partners had representatives on the spot, our western partners had already started looking at us suspiciously, that in fact, you are going to carry out aggressive actions, because there are large concentrations of Armenian and Russian troops there, and you are going to attack Azerbaijan. Poor Azerbaijanis want to take the heights to balance. Realizing that a lot of resources are being spent on it, we said: okay, you come and observe on the spot, see if it all corresponds to reality or not," he said.
