Maps of the Soviet Union will be the basis for the delimitation and demarcation of the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Nikol Pashinyan said this during the Q&A with the government in the National Assembly answering the question of the MP Armenuhi Kyureghyan.
The MP recalled the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin that Armenia and Azerbaijan can solve border problems based on maps of the Soviet period.
“Do you think that trilateral discussions are needed, and these discussions will take place around the maps of the Russian army headquarters, and are you sure that these maps are at least based on the law on administrative-territorial division, which you talk about so often?”, Kyuregyan asked.
Pashinyan replied that these maps coincide with the law on administrative-territorial division.
“I’m sure that the maps mentioned by the President of Russia if not 100%, then 99% coincide with the borders of the Republic of Armenia described by the law on administrative-territorial division. According to that law the administrative-territorial border of Shurnukh coincides with the edge of the territory of Armenia,” he said.
According to the Prime Minister, discussions around these maps are necessary, and it is not that there is no example of these maps in Armenia. It’s just that Russia is acting as a mediator in this issue.
