Vasif Talıbov, the chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan, has resigned. He held this position since December 1995.

Azer Zeynalov, his first deputy, will perform the powers of the chairman of the Mejlis.

It should be noted that recently, widespread arrests have taken place in Nakhichevan, and state structures have been abolished.

According to the Azerbaijani press, political scientists, and analysts, although the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan is a state within Azerbaijan, Baku wants to cancel the autonomy of Nakhichevan, limiting the de facto independence of Nakhichevan.
