Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that during the meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the idea of creating a “3+3” format with Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia was discussed, TASS reports.
“That same joint statement (ed.-from November 9) contains the principles, which determine further steps towards unblocking all transport communications in the region, from which not only Armenia and Azerbaijan, but also Georgia, Iran, Russia and Turkey will benefit. In this context today we discussed the initiative to create a “3+3″ format, which will include three Caucasian countries and three neighbors – Russia, Turkey and Iran,” Sergey Lavrov said.
Lavrov stressed that the Iranian side has responded positively to this initiative. “Azerbaijan and Turkey have also responded positively, we are working with our Armenian colleagues. We hope that Georgia will also show interest in joining such a format,” the Russian Foreign Minister added.
