The evacuation of cultural monuments from Berdzor, Aghavno, and Sus settlements of the Artsakh Republic, which will be handed over to Azerbaijan on August 25, will be completed next week. This was announced by Lernik Hovhannisyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Artsakh.
“According to the civil defense plan, when a decision was made that the population should be evacuated, naturally the memorials had to be evacuated, as well as the book fund – libraries, museum exhibits. Now the city library of Berdzor, the book fund, the monuments of Nerkin Sus and Aghavno, the monuments of monumental art, the khachkars, as well as the memorials on the Berdzor and Aghavno road have been evacuated. For the most part, their evacuation is almost completely completed, the works are going on, most likely they will be finished in the next week,” he said.
According to the deputy minister, the memorials and khachkars have been moved to Stepanakert, and there is already an agreement with the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church that some of them will be placed in the park near St. Hovhannes Church in Stepanakert, and the other part will be placed in the area adjacent to St. Hakob Church.
