Armenian weightlifters won 7 medals at the European Youth and U15 Championships

Armenia’s youth and U15 weightlifting teams performed successfully at the European Championship held in Poland, winning 5 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal as a result of the two-night event.

On the penultimate day of the competition, 81 kg Emma Poghosyan won the title of European junior champion with a result of 206 kg. The 16-year-old sportswoman ripped the 91 kg barbell, winning a small silver medal, and pushed the 115 kg barbell, winning a small gold medal.

Ashot Margaryan, weighing 96 kg, was the last of the representatives of Armenia to take the stage and became the bronze medalist with a result of 287 kg (159+128) in the two-fight event. Margaryan also took third place in the push-up exercise, receiving a small bronze medal (159 kg).

Earlier, the title of European U15 champion was won by 67 kg Valerik Movsisyan. With the result of 254 kg (120+134) of the duel, he stood on the first step of the honor platform. The Armenian weightlifter set a European record in the snatch exercise and was also awarded two small gold medals.

Mikael Cholakyan, Alexandra Grigoryan, and Seryozha Barseghyan (U15) also became European champions, while Zhora Grigoryan won a silver medal. The Armenian U15 and girls’ youth teams took second place with the team, and the boys’ youth team took third place.
