On September 2, the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan received Miroslav Yencha, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs. 

Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that the visit of the Deputy UN Security Council is a good opportunity to discuss the developments taking place in the South Caucasus and the prospects of the UN’s involvement in addressing the existing problems.

The interlocutors exchanged ideas on a number of issues related to RA-UN cooperation. The activities carried out between the UN and Armenia in the direction of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals were highlighted. A number of issues of regional and international importance were also touched upon during the meeting. Ararat Mirzoyan presented Armenia’s position on the processes aimed at establishing stability and peace in the region.

RA Foreign Minister emphasized that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should receive its comprehensive and long-term settlement in the framework of the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group, the only format with a mediation mandate from the international community.
 
Referring to the humanitarian problems in Nagorno-Karabakh after the 44-day war, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the need for the unhindered involvement of relevant UN bodies on the ground, also following the UN principle of “ignoring no one”.

Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of the return of the Armenian POWs held by Azerbaijan, the clarification of the fates of the missing persons, and the forcibly disappeared.
