We expect certain steps from the EU that will stop Azerbaijan’s genocidal policy – HRD of Artsakh |armenpress.am|

The European Union, being a structure based on human rights and freedoms, has no right to remain silent about the crimes that Azerbaijan is committing against Artsakh.

Artsakh human rights defender Gegham Stepanyan expressed such a view during the protest action in front of the office of the European Union delegation in Armenia.

He emphasized that the purpose of the actions initiated by him at the embassies of different countries in RA is to achieve direct condemnation of Azerbaijan’s provocations by the international community and to push for practical steps aimed at overcoming the humanitarian crisis facing Artsakh.

“The European Union, which is a structure based on human rights and freedoms in the world, as far as we know, because this is how the EU presents itself to the world, today has no right to remain silent about the crimes, the criminal policy that Azerbaijan conducts towards Artsakh,” Artsakh HRD Gegham Stepanyan declared.

He emphasized that they expect not only statements and neutrality from the European Union, but concrete steps that will stop the continuation of Azerbaijan’s genocidal policy towards the people of Artsakh.

“The European Union should understand that today more than 120.000 people in Artsakh have been held hostage due to Azerbaijan’s whims.

The European Union, which today participates in the conflict settlement process, at least makes efforts, should understand that, by maintaining neutrality, it is directly contributing to the violation of the rights of the people of Artsakh on a daily basis,” HRD of Artsakh emphasized.
