On December 15, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with UN Secretary-General for Political and Peacekeeping Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo in New Yor, RA MFA reports.
During the meeting, Minister Mirzoyan referred to the latest developments in the process of normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, and the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia noted that Azerbaijan’s fanatical ambitions, aggressions against the territorial integrity of Armenia, the ongoing occupation of the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia, and bellicose and anti-Armenian statements create an unstable situation in the region, full of security and humanitarian challenges.
Minister Mirzoyan also emphasized the need to repatriate Armenian prisoners of war and the inadmissibility of Azerbaijan’s political manipulation of the issue. The Armenian side presented the situation created by Azerbaijan’s blocking of the Lachin Corridor and disruption of gas supply to Nagorno Karabakh, emphasizing the danger of a humanitarian crisis.
It was emphasized the importance of an adequate and targeted response by the international structures, in particular, the relevant UN bodies, as well as the implementation of effective steps in order to exclude a possible humanitarian disaster.
