Freedom House calls on Azerbaijan to open the Lachin Corridor

The Freedom House organization called on Azerbaijan to open the Lachin Corridor.

“Azerbaijan’s month-long blockade of the Lachin corridor is creating a humanitarian crisis within Nagorno-Karabakh as vital supplies dwindle. We call again for Azerbaijan to immediately end the blockage,” the organization wrote in a tweet.

It also called on the international community to support lifting the blockade and return to non-violent negotiations. “We call on the international community to support the lifting of the blockade and a return to negotiations without coercion. The rights, security, and well-being of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh must be ensured.”

Since December 12, 2022, Azerbaijan has closed the Lachin Corridor connecting Artsakh to Armenia, as a result of which 120,000 residents of Artsakh, including 30,000 children, are under siege. 1100 civilians, including 270 minors, cannot return to Artsakh from RA.

Due to the blockade, it is not possible to deliver 400 tons of food and medicine from RA to Artsakh every day. There is a shortage of food and medicine.

11 children are in the neonatal and intensive care units, and 8 patients are in the intensive care unit. 3 are in critical condition. During these days, 19 Armenians and 4 foreigners in need of emergency medical care were transferred to RA only through the mediation of the Red Cross, and one of the patients died in Artsakh.

Since January 10, due to the accident, the electricity supply in Artsakh is carried out through a limited local resource, and the Internet connection has been restored.

Artsakh is under siege for 34 days.
