In Artsakh, it is planned to give the brothers of those killed in the 44-day war an opportunity to be released from compulsory military service

In the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh, the draft law "On Amending the Law on "Military Service and the Status of Servicemen'" has been put into circulation, according to which it is planned to give the brothers of servicemen who died in the 44-day war the opportunity to be exempted from compulsory military service.

According to the justification of the bill, the current law, in addition to having a parent, brother, or sister who died during the service, also establishes a mandatory condition for exemption from military service, being the only male child in the family. However, there are younger brothers of servicemen who died in the 44-day war and as a result of military operations in the territory of Artsakh after that, who are subject to mandatory military service, because they are not the only male child in the family.

In the draft law, referring to the current situation and problems, it is noted that the parents of servicemen who died in the 44-day war are in a difficult psychological and social condition and do not want to send their youngest son to military service, and on this basis, during the 2022 conscription, raised among the public the wave of dissatisfaction in the Republic of Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia due to the different approaches that are the basis for exemption from compulsory military service in Article 21 of the laws "On Military Service and the Status of Servicemen", has made it necessary to give the opportunity to exempt from compulsory military service also to the members of these families.
