Lavrov believes that the crisis created around the Lachin Corridor will be resolved soon

Sergey Lavrov expressed his opinion that the crisis created around the Lachin Corridor will be resolved soon. The Russian Foreign Minister said this during the press conference summarizing the year 2022.

Lavrov stated that according to the tripartite declaration of November 9, 2020, the Lachine Corridor should be open for cargo, citizens, and vehicles. "Of course, it is specifically stated that no military cargo of any kind can pass through."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation said that the Azerbaijanis gave them information that the Armenian side moved mines through the corridor, and then they were used to mine the areas near the Azerbaijani positions. According to Lavrov, the Russian side is checking these data.

He noted that the Russian peacekeeping force should monitor the traffic through the Lachin Corridor and has all the rights to check passing vehicles and exclude the passage of unauthorized, non-humanitarian objects.

Lavrov also informed that a meeting was held between representatives of Azerbaijan and Artsakh with the participation of Russian peacekeepers, and expressed his opinion that the issue will be resolved in the near future.

It should be reminded that since December 12, 2022, Azerbaijan has closed the Lachin Corridor connecting Artsakh to Armenia, as a result of which 120,000 residents of Artsakh, including 30,000 children, are under siege. 1100 civilians, including 270 minors, cannot return to Artsakh from RA. On January 17, 19 children returned home on the Goris-Stepanakert road accompanied by Russian peacekeeping troops.

Because of the blockade, delivering 400 tons of food and medicine from RA to Artsakh every day is impossible. there is a shortage of food and medicine.

13 children are in the neonatal and intensive care units, and 9 patients are in the intensive care unit. 5 are in critical condition. During these days, 28 Armenians and 4 foreigners in need of emergency medical care were transferred to RA only through the mediation of the Red Cross, and one of the patients died in Artsakh.

Since January 10, because of the accident, the electricity supply in Artsakh has been carried out on a four-hour schedule of fan outages.

Since the morning of January 18, Azerbaijan has once again disrupted the work of the only gas pipeline feeding Artsakh from Armenia.
