The Azerbaijani sabotage attack in Artsak: Latest updates

The message spread by the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan that allegedly the units of the Defense Forces opened fire on March 5 in the direction of the Azerbaijani positions located in the occupied territories of the Shushi region of the Republic of Artsakh is another misinformation.

It should be reminded that the police of the Artsakh Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that around 10:00 a.m. on March 5, a sabotage group of the Azerbaijani armed forces targeted and opened fire on the shift car of the police passport and visa department staff in the area called "Khaipalu".

As a result of the subversive infiltration, 3 police officers were killed, and another officer received a gunshot wound to the chest and is in the Republican Medical Center.

Later today, the Russian Defense Ministry recorded the attack of the Azerbaijani subversive group on the car of the Artsakh police.

Russian Foreign Ministry expressed serious concern regarding the increase in tension in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, calling on the parties to show restraint and take steps to defuse the situation.

Javier Colomina, the special representative of the NATO Secretary General for the Caucasus and Central Asia,  referred to the shooting of a police car by the Azerbaijani armed forces and the death of people in Artsakh.

“Very concerned with reports of the deadly incident in the vicinity of Stepanakert. This incident demonstrates the urgency to find solutions for outstanding issues at the negotiation table. NATO supports the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan”, Colomina wrote.

Peter Stano, Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, also referred to the attack of the Azerbaijani sabotage group on the policemen in Artsakh.

"The EU is sorry for the violence that broke out on the Karabakh contact line yesterday, which resulted in at least five victims. The circumstances of this fatal incident must be thoroughly investigated. We call on all interested parties to exercise restraint to prevent further actions that could further undermine regional stability and threaten the peace process," he said.
