Baku obstructs Yerevan's proposal to send a UN mission to Artsakh - RA Human Rights Defender |azatutyun.am|

Until now, the Azerbaijani side is able to block Armenia's proposal to send a mission to Artsakh by the United Nations, Armenian Human Rights Defender Kristine Grigoryan said in an interview with Azatutyan, answering the question whether they were able to convince international partners to go to Artsakh and understand the situation on the spot.

Grigoryan said that he discussed the issue with the UN Human Rights Council President, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia also sent such a proposal.

"For example, recently we sent our report on the closure of the Lachin Corridor, and many questions were about it, they asked: "Is there any international organization that there and you can confirm it?" This was once again an opportunity to reaffirm our claim, or present the proposal," said the Human Rights Defender.

The only organization that is represented in Stepanakert is the International Committee of the Red Cross, said Grigoryan, emphasizing at the same time that it has a very limited and particular, narrow, humanitarian mandate. The organization is facing enormous difficulties in the conditions of non-cooperative practices of the Azerbaijani side.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also made this proposal and sent this initiative very specifically, and until now Azerbaijan is able to block the initiative for such a mission to come," said the Defender, concluding. - "Consequently, it turns out that the work of the UN bodies is not so easy and the priorities of the protection of human rights are not progressing so smoothly. A very long diplomatic work is needed here."

It should be reminded that since December 12, Azerbaijan has closed the Lachin Corridor connecting Artsakh to Armenia, as a result of which 120,000 residents of Artsakh, including 30,000 children, are under blockade. 1100 civilians, including 270 minors, cannot return from Armenia to Artsakh.

Because of the blockade, it is not possible to deliver 400 tons of food and medicine from Armenia to Artsakh every day, as a result of which there is a shortage of food and medicine.

350 patients cannot receive treatment in Armenia. 21 patients, including children, are in the intensive care unit. During these days, two Armenians and 4 foreigners in need of emergency medical care were transferred to Armenia only through the mediation of the Red Cross, and one of the patients in Artsakh who needed medical care and was in critical condition died.
