Azerbaijan demanded an urgent measure against Armenia in the Hague court, claiming that they "have new facts" |azatutyun.am|

With the blockade of the only road connecting Artsakh to the outside world for more than a month and a half, Baku today demands the International Court of Justice to oblige Armenia to stop the "mining of Azerbaijani territories" and the use of Lachin road to "transport mines" to Karabakh. Azerbaijan's representative Elnur Mammadov in his speech at the UN court demanded an urgent measure against Armenia, claiming that he has new facts.

"Azerbaijan has new evidence that Armenia continues to mine Azerbaijani territories. In 2021, more than 2700 mines of Armenian production were found in Azerbaijan. More than half of those mines were found in civilian areas. Explosive traps were found in the houses, the purpose of which is to kill or maim the Azerbaijanis who want to return home," he stated.

With the complaint of the representative of Azerbaijan, Armenia thus violates the tripartite statement of November 9, 2020. According to the Azerbaijani side, the Lachin road, which is intended exclusively for humanitarian purposes, is used for the transportation of these mines and other types of weapons.

Earlier, in a conversation with "Armenpress", Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced that the Azerbaijanis discovered mines of new production not in Nagorno-Karabakh, but in the territories of Armenia occupied by them in 2021 and 2022.

"We do not deny that the RA Armed Forces carry out mine-laying works in the sovereign territory of Armenia, and this is due to the constantly high risk of new military aggressions by Azerbaijan, which we witnessed in 2021. in May and November, as well as in 2022. in September," said Ararat Mirzoyan.

Today, Mammadov accused the Armenian side of hiding information about mines, claiming that the war against them continues. According to him, after the end of the 44-day war, 292 Azerbaijanis were killed or injured as a result of mine explosions.

"Azeris continue to be seriously injured and die because Armenia does not want to share the information that could save them," he said.

The Armenian side will only have the opportunity to present counterarguments in the evening. Yesterday, international judges heard the appeal of the Armenian side against Azerbaijan at the Hague court. Armenia demands the international court to apply an urgent measure and oblige Azerbaijan to open the Lachin Corridor, ensure the free, two-way movement of people and transport, as well as immediately restore the energy supply.
