RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan expressed his condolences regarding the devastating earthquake that took place in Turkey and Syria today and killed more than a thousand people.

"My heartfelt condolences to Turkey and Syria over the tragic consequences and loss of innocent lives following the devastating earthquake. Sympathies to the bereaved families and wishes of a speedy recovery to all injured," he wrote on Twitter.

It should be reminded that in Turkey, not far from the Syrian border, there was a 7.8-magnitude earthquake at night. Destruction has taken place in many cities in Turkey and Syria. There are many victims and wounded. The devastating earthquake of the night in Turkey was followed today by aftershocks, one of which was of magnitude 7.7 and then of magnitude 5.9.
