On February 21, at the initiative of the European side, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin had a telephone conversation with Toivo Klaar, the EU's special representative for the South Caucasus. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Galuzin expressed his opinion that the decision of Brussels to expand the EU civil mission in Armenia has a geopolitical context. According to him, it does not contribute to the stabilization of the South Caucasus. Galuzin emphasized the lack of consensus between Baku and Yerevan regarding the initiative.

The Russian side also noted that canceling the regular rounds of Geneva international discussions is counterproductive.

"Such a practice can lead to the actual blocking of the work of that important negotiation mechanism, which can harm regional security," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Galuzin confirmed the position of the Russian side in favor of continuing the agenda approved by the Geneva format.
