Armenia is not interested in the transparent work of the Lachin Corridor - Bayramov |azatutyun.am|

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov wrote that "Armenia is not interested in the transparent work of the Lachin Corridor".

With that letter, Bayramov responded to the February 22 decision of the International Court of Justice regarding the Lachin Corridor.

"The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated in the letter that the Government of Azerbaijan bears no responsibility for the protest actions organized by representatives of the civil society on the road to Lachin and cannot forcefully limit their legal right to protest," the ministry said in a statement.

At the same time, in his presentation, Bayramov wrote about "the cases of misuse of the Lachin Corridor by Armenia" and claimed that Azerbaijan guarantees the safety of the road.

According to Bayramov, neither the government nor the protesters are obstructing traffic.

Bayramov wrote to Guterres that the vehicles of the Red Cross and Russian peacekeeping troops pass on the road unhindered.

He also wrote that Azerbaijan offered to install checkpoints on the Lachin road, "and the fact that the Armenian side rejected it proves that Yerevan is not interested in the transparent work of the Lachin corridor."

The establishment of a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor connecting Armenia with Artsakh remains unacceptable for Yerevan.

"Armenia's position has not changed," Vahan Hunanyan, the spokesperson of the foreign ministry, told "Azatutyun" earlier.

After the Munich negotiations, Azerbaijani President Aliyev voiced the idea of setting up a checkpoint. In response, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ararat Mirzoyan, stated that the renegotiation of the Lachin Corridor is not acceptable to Armenia.

The corridor has been closed for three months.
