As a result of the September aggression, Azerbaijan occupied around 150 square kilometers of the sovereign territory of Armenia - Mirzoyan

In 2022, issues related to the establishment of peace and stability in the region, the regulation of relations with neighboring countries through peaceful negotiations, and the formation of a security environment around Armenia continued to be essential for Armenia’s politics. Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan said this today at the session of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.

“Negotiations with Azerbaijan continued in all directions: regulation of relations and a corresponding agreement, border delimitation, and border security process, unblocking of all transport and economic communication links in the region.

During 2022, a number of meetings took place in the mentioned directions with the participation of Armenia’s Prime Minister in trilateral and quadrilateral formats,” Mirzoyan stated.

The Foreign Minister mentioned the statement of Prague, according to which the EU monitoring mission was dispatched to Armenia to conduct monitoring along the Armenia-Azerbaijan international border.

“The Alma Ata declaration was laid as the basis for the implementation of the delimitation process.

Last year, a meeting was also held in Sochi with the mediation of the Russian President, within the framework of which the statement adopted also highlighted the declaration of Alma Ata, as well as the fact that all problems should be solved exclusively through negotiations,” said the Foreign Minister.

Mirzoyan reminded that in 2022, a number of meetings in the format of foreign ministers were also held.

“Despite the constructive efforts made by Armenia, Azerbaijan has continued its destructive attitude, aggressive rhetoric and extremist actions on important issues.

As a result of the September aggression, Azerbaijan occupied around 150 square kilometers of the sovereign territory of Armenia, constantly carried out provocative and aggressive actions on the border of Armenia and in Nagorno-Karabakh, illegally blocked the Lachin corridor, causing a humanitarian crisis in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), and keeps Armenian prisoners of war and civilians in captivity,” Mirzoyan said.
