Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov commented on the results of the snap parliamentary elections in Armenia.
"We think that the new political leadership of Armenia will correctly assess and will understand the real consequences of this crisis, and will draw the right conclusions. Many in Armenia consider the main result of this crisis to be Armenia's heavy defeat in the 44-day war, but its roots are much deeper, they go back to the past.
We believe that the sooner the principle of normal development of countries in the region through the normalization of relations within the framework of compliance with international norms and principles becomes indisputable, the sooner Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as other countries in the region, will be able to see results," he said.
Bayramov added that Azerbaijan is in favor of the normalization of relations with Armenia and that in that sense Baku has made an offer to Yerevan.
"Our position on this issue is known, and it remains unchanged. This has been stated many times by the leader of our state. Based on the principles of international law, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and inviolability of internationally recognized borders, Azerbaijan is eager to normalize the relations (with Armenia - ed.)," Bayramov said at a briefing today.
According to him, Baku believes that there is no alternative to cooperation in the region.
