One of the wanted people is the one who has died: We are currently looking for one citizen - MES spokesperson

One of the wanted people is the one who, unfortunately, has died. In that sense, we are currently looking for one citize, the spokesman of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Hayk Kostanyan informed.

"There are two missing people, but we are actually looking for one citizen at the moment. Samples have been taken from family members, within a few days we will have an identification, so one of the two people being sought is the person who, unfortunately, has died. In that sense, we are currently looking for one citizen," he said.

Referring to the observation and the complaints about the work of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Kostanyan said:

"The functions of the Ministry of Emegency Situations include quick response, fire fighting, rescue and other works. We had the response, we were at the scene 7 minutes after receiving the alarm, we carried out fire fighting and search and rescue operations. From a security point of view, perhaps you should direct your questions to law enforcement agencies. I'm not saying that they failed, I'm just saying that the raised issue is not within our scope, I think we have performed our functions at a proper level."

Kostanyan also addressed the issues regarding the involvement of volunteers, noting that there was no shortage of manpower.

"Representatives of the Red Cross, and representatives of the VOMA NGO were involved in search and rescue operations. From the first second, ordinary citizens, as well as organizations and individuals, who wanted to carry out search and rescue operations, began to call our 911 hotline in huge numbers. The headquarters decided to accept the help of those citizens and involve them in the works. It was not related to the lack of manpower, but we did not want to refuse the help of our citizens," he noted.

Kostanyan noted that there was "confusion" only during the first hours.

"The confusion was during the first few hours, when the citizens of the area, the people who were passing through the area, everyone tried to help in some way at that moment, and that was the reason for the chaotic situation in the next few hours after the incident, but even that confusion did not prevent the fire squads from intensively carrying out both search and fire-fighting," Kostanyan concluded.
