The Republic of Armenia has not received any official offer to become part of the Union State. This was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia in response to Infocom's written request.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also stated during the press conference a few days ago that there was no proposal for Armenia to become part of the Union State with Russia and Belarus. Pashinyan, however, emphasized that "the reality is not so simple, and often it is necessary to consider not so much the text of the questions as the context".
Speaking about whether RA has received an unofficial offer to become part of the Union State, Pashinyan said, "the talk continuously developed by experts can be considered unofficial, and unofficial contacts can also be considered."
At the end of last year, the Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, spoke about the topic, saying that there is pressure on Armenia from the Union State, without elaborating, however, on whose side the pressure is and at what level. After Grigoryan's statement, we sent a request to the Foreign Ministry.
Gagik Melkonyan, a deputy of the "Civil Contract" faction of the National Assembly, also spoke about the pressures exerted on Armenia in connection with the union state in an interview with Factor.am, noting that there were even deadlines regarding the inclusion of Armenia into that state, but Armenia categorically rejected the proposals.
The topic of the Union State in Armenia began to be discussed more actively in February of last year, when the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, speaking about the prospects of post-Soviet countries joining the Union State, said: "Belarus is already there. I think it was a good lesson for Kazakhstan. If you say that the term is 15 years, I am sure that Ukraine will be there if we do not make mistakes. Well, and the rest according to the perimeter... After the end of the unification of that power or during the unification... Where will they end up? Armenia has nowhere to run... What, do you think someone needs them.? They have already seen it, Nikol Vovaevich has already seen it."
The spokesperson of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia responded to this statement of the head of Belarus, stating that this statement has nothing to do with Armenia's foreign policy and the original geopolitical analyzes of the President of Belarus are aimed primarily at serving his own domestic political agenda, after which the Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan announced that there is no issue of the Union State in Armenia's agenda.
