Only peace can provide guaranteed security - Nikol Pashinyan

My belief remains the same only peace can provide guaranteed security. In other words, until we have comprehensive peace, we cannot talk about comprehensive security. Therefore, all our efforts, even in the most acute situations, are aimed at peace. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this in an interview with Public Television of Armenia.

"If we believe that the inviolability of our borders should be protected including by the efforts of our army and diplomatic means, the long-term goal of that operation is also peace. We are trying to make our positions clear to the international community, and the international community will receive as objective information as possible about the situation," added the Prime Minister.

He also emphasized that the government is actively working in all necessary directions to ensure the security of Armenia.

Speaking about international guarantees and instruments, including international observation missions, Pashinyan elaborated.

"The mission announced by France is a mission sent by the Ministry of Defense to assess the security situation on the spot for further analysis and assessment. When we talk about the international observation mission, we mean either a long-term or a permanent observation mission mechanism, one of the most important goals of which is the transfer of impartial information about the situation to the relevant international structures, after which appropriate actions will follow."

This logic stems from the fact that Azerbaijan never says that I violated the ceasefire, they always try to present that there was some kind of provocation. Naturally, we deny that baseless information by all possible means, but on the other hand, we say that since this is an ongoing situation, it would be right for the international community to have an observation mission to assess the situation on the spot.

As for the change of positions: no change of positions actually took place, because all the mentioned missions are international missions. We do not close the door to anyone, we say "no, you should not come", but there are also international organizations that can play such a role, for example, the OSCE, the UN Security Council, and so on. I mean, there has never been a change in positions, we have not ruled out the possibility of an OSCE observation mission," said Pashinyan.

Speaking about the comments of the opposition regarding his speech at the UN, that the speech was the "funeral" of the era of peace, the Prime Minister noted that there is a mandatory condition for the "funeral" of the era of peace.

"He must be born, matured, aged and dead, one cannot talk about a phenomenon that has not yet been born. Our entire task and goal was and continues to be to open an era of peace around RA and in the region, and we have formulated that task in order to realize it.

We did not announce that the era of peace has opened from today, we said that it is a problem to create that era. It is a mission that we have to carry out. And our commitment to that agenda has never wavered. Another thing that we understand is that it does not depend only on us, but on the other hand we also understand that we cannot always make an argument that since it does not depend only on us, we have nothing to do. We must make peace become a common interest for the region."

Referring to the discussions about signing some documents, Pashinyan said that with these discussions, an impression is created that there is a paper prepared for signing, and now it is being discussed whether to sign it now or not, but in fact, there is no such paper, but it would be good if there was.

"The problem is that today there is no document to sign because if there was, it would be very good. It would mean that as a result of our work, we were able to reach a text on which there is something to think about, whether we should sign it or not. And if there is a project, those projects are prepared by us, particularly on the opening of regional communications. There is currently no text regarding the peace treaty," Pashinyan concluded.
