Territorial integrity, mutual recognition of the inviolability of internationally recognized borders: Baku presented its 5 points of settlement of relations with Armenia

Leyla Abdullayeva, the representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, touched upon Azerbaijan's proposals for the settlement of relations with Armenia. Among these proposals is the recognition of each other's territorial integrity and mutual confirmation of the absence of territorial claims to each other.

"During his speech at the diplomatic forum in Antalya, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about Azerbaijan's peacemaker efforts in the post-conflict period. It was noted that despite the steps aimed at the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the statements at the highest level about the readiness to conclude a peace treaty with that country, Armenia has not given any response lately."

Then Abdullayeva presented Azerbaijan's proposal, which was transmitted to Armenia by the mediators.

  • mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of internationally recognized borders and respect for each other's political independence,

  • mutual confirmation of the absence of territorial requirements to each other,

  • the obligation to refrain from the use of force in their interstate relations, against political independence, territorial integrity, as well as in any other form inconsistent with the purposes of the UN Charter,

  • demarcation and delimitation of the state border, establishment of diplomatic relations,

  • unblocking transport and other communications, creating other communications if necessary, and establishing cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement, which runs as follows.

"The Republic of Armenia responded to the proposals of the Republic of Azerbaijan and applied to the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship to organize negotiations on the signing of peace agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan on the basis of the UN Charter, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Helsinki Final Act," the statement reads.

 

EU Special Representative is in Yerevan for a two-day visit 

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar is paying a two-day visit to Yerevan. He wrote about it on his Twitter. "Back in Yerevan for two days of meetings. As the international environment has become more tense, the EU is more than ever committed to the goal of a peaceful and prosperous South Caucasus," Klaar wrote.

On March 14, The Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, met with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar. The Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Andrea Victorin, the Chief of Staff of the EU Special Representative, Political Adviser Bjorn Kunier, also attended the meeting. During the meeting, the parties touched upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani border situation and the steps taken to increase the level of border security and stability. In this context, the need to start the process of demarcation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was stressed. The Secretary of the Security Council presented the humanitarian crisis and the security situation in Nagorno Karabakh. He also stressed the importance of a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

 

PM Pashinyan holds telephone conversation with US Secretary of State and Canadian PM

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The parties stressed the need for stability and peace in the region, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, which will contribute to the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the US Secretary of State exchanged views on the delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the chances for unblocking communications in the region, as well as the ongoing dialogue between Armenia and Turkey. The sides also referred to the processes taking place in the international arena, including the situation in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. Justin Trudeau expressed the readiness of the Government of Canada to further contribute to the strengthening of democracy in Armenia and the deepening of bilateral ties in various fields. The Prime Ministers of Armenia and Canada discussed the escalation of tensions over Nagorno-Karabakh and highlighted the comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs aimed at ensuring stability and peace in the region. The interlocutors exchanged views on the processes taking place in the South Caucasus, including the opportunities of delimitation and demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the Armenian-Turkish dialogue. The situation in Ukraine was touched upon.
