Armenian MFA sends note of protest to Acting UN Resident Coordinator

On March 19, Lila Pieters Yahia, the Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia, was invited to the Foreign Ministry of Armenia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reports. During the meeting, the Acting UN Resident Coordinator was informed that the Foreign Ministry of Armenia strongly condemns the involvement of the UN Office in Azerbaijan in the event organised in Shushi on March 18 and, in this regard, the note of protest was submitted by the Foreign Ministry of Armenia. The Foreign Ministry demanded that the United Nations take steps to restore the neutral position of the UN in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Leyla Abdullayeva, head of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press Service, responded to the protest note of the Armenian Foreign Ministry in connection with the involvement of the UN office in the event in Shoushi. "The organization of any event on the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan and the participation of international representatives in that event is not within the competence of Armenia," Abdullayeva said, Azerbaijani MFA reports. "Armenia's interference in the internal affairs of another state is unjustified and unacceptable," Abdullayeva added.
