EU called on Azerbaijan to take measures to ensure freedom, and security of movement along the Lachin corridor – Borrell

The EU has been closely following the developments along and around the Lachin corridor and their humanitarian implications, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell said in his answer on behalf of the European Commission to Member of the European Parliament Demetris Papadakis’ written questions.

“Since the beginning of December 2022, the EU has been closely following the developments along and around the Lachin corridor and their humanitarian implications. The EU remains seriously concerned about the distress the ongoing restrictions to freedom of movement and to the supply of vital goods are causing for the local population,' he stated.

At the meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, the process of regulating Armenia-Turkey relations was discussed

Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly, head of the Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Ruben Rubinyan, and members of the delegation met today with the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Bjørn Berge.

Welcoming the guest, Ruben Rubinyan appreciated the cooperation with the Council of Europe and the structure's support for the process of democratic reforms in Armenia. Expressing gratitude for the reception, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe emphasized the high level of RA-CE interaction. Regional issues were also discussed during the meeting.

PM Pashinyan participates in the opening ceremony of the Munich Security Conference, meets the President of France, Iraq and the President of the ICRC

Within the framework of the Munich Security Conference, Prime Minister Pashinyan had a short meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

As reported by the Government's press service, the interlocutors exchanged ideas on issues related to the security and stability of the region.

In his speech at the Munich Security Conference, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he will continue to stand by Armenia and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The main part of Macron's speech was related to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, but the leader of France also referred to the situation in the South Caucasus.

"How can we believe that the challenges of the Caucasus can be overcome by the neo-colonial Russia that I described a moment ago? I am saying this in the presence of my friend, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, with whom we will continue to stand and act," Macron said.

Nikol Pashinyan also had a meeting with Catherine de Boll, Executive Director of Europol, within the framework of the Munich Security Conference. Issues related to the further development of cooperation in the fight against crime were discussed.

The Prime Minister referred to the reforms and programs implemented in the RA police system, expressing hope that cooperation will develop in this direction as well.

Within the framework of the Munich Security Conference, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also had a meeting with Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross. 

The Prime Minister thanked the ICRC for providing communication between the Armenian captives illegally held in Azerbaijan until now and their families.

The President of the ICRC stated that they will continue to contribute to the solution of the humanitarian problems of the NK population according to their mandate. Mrs. Spoljaric also mentioned the fact of effective cooperation with the Armenian government.

Pashinyan also met the President of Iraqi Kurdistan Nêçîrvan Barzanî. The interlocutors emphasized the continuous development of trade and economic cooperation and noted that the volume of bilateral trade is growing year by year. In that context, the expansion and deepening of business ties were emphasized.

The sides also exchanged thoughts on other topics of regional importance.

 

 

 

The International Court of Justice will announce the decision on the issue of unblocking the Lachin Corridor on February 22

The International Court of Justice has notified that the decision on Armenia's request to apply a temporary measure regarding the unblocking of the Lachin Corridor will be published on February 22, at 19:00 Yerevan time, at a public hearing.
