The RA representative at the UN discussed the situation in Artsakh with the head of ICRC

Andranik Hovhannisyan, permanent representative of Armenia at the UN, discussed the situation in Artsakh with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric.

It is mentioned in the Twitter of the UN representation and the Armenian Embassy in Geneva that Hovhannisyan spoke with Spoljaric on humanitarian issues.

He emphasized the important role of the ICRC in Nagorno-Karabakh, referred to the situation in the Lachin Corridor, the issue of missing persons and prisoners of war in the 44-day war.

Stefano Tomat presented to Armen Grigoryan the works to be carried out by the EU mission in Armenia

The Security Council chief of staff Armen Grigoryan received the delegation headed by Stefano Tomat, commander of civil operations of the EU External Action Service.

Welcoming the arrival and official launch of the new EU civilian monitoring mission in Armenia, the Security Council Secretary expressed confidence that it will continue to contribute to the establishment of stability and peace in our region.

Stefano Tomat thanked the Armenian side for their support of the EU civil mission and presented the works to be carried out in Armenia.

Nikol Pashinyan hosted former French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan hosted the delegation led by the former Prime Minister of France, Mayor of Le Havre  Édouard Philippe. 

The Prime Minister emphasized the consistent development of Armenian-French relations and underlined Mr. Philippe's efforts in strengthening them. Nikol Pashinyan highly appreciated the former French Prime Minister's visit to the Syunik region of Armenia.

Philippe noted that he had a meeting with Artsakh Armenians in Goris, who are unable to travel to Nagorno Karabakh due to the closure of the Lachin corridor, to assess the situation on the spot.

In this context, the continuous attention and consistent steps of the international community in the direction of unblocking the Lachin Corridor in order to overcome the humanitarian, environmental, and energy crisis created in Nagorno-Karabakh were highlighted.

At the meeting, ideas were exchanged about the processes taking place in the region.

RA Deputy Minister of Defense received the EU delegation

On February 21, RA Deputy Defense Minister Arman Sargsyan received the delegation led by Stefano Tomat, the commander of civil operations of the EU External Action Service. As we learn from the press release of the Ministry of Defense, the head of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia, Markus Ritter, was also part of the delegation.

During the meeting, issues related to the activity of the EU monitoring mission in Armenia were discussed.

Both sides emphasized the mission's role in strengthening border stability and security.

Nikol Pashinyan and the EU Civil Action Commander touched upon the work to be done in Armenia

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received the Commander of the European Union's Foreign Action Service Stefano Tomati, and his delegation, which made the head of the EU's new monitoring mission in Armenia.

According to the RA Government, the Prime Minister welcomed the decision to deploy the EU's long-term civilian monitoring mission in Armenia and emphasize that it will provide a benefit to regional stability and peace.

Galuzin and Klaar referred to the deployment of the EU observation mission in Armenia

On February 21, at the initiative of the European side, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin had a telephone conversation with Toivo Klaar, the EU's special representative for the South Caucasus. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Galuzin expressed his opinion that the decision of Brussels to expand the EU civil mission in Armenia has a geopolitical context. According to him, it does not contribute to the stabilization of the South Caucasus. Galuzin emphasized the lack of consensus between Baku and Yerevan regarding the initiative.

The Russian side also noted that canceling the regular rounds of Geneva international discussions is counterproductive.

"Such a practice can lead to the actual blocking of the work of that important negotiation mechanism, which can harm regional security," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Galuzin confirmed the position of the Russian side in favor of continuing the agenda approved by the Geneva format.
